FAQ
Can I buy from you?
Not yet. Today the site is research only. Product pages link to the manufacturer or a retailer with an unpaid link. When merchants approve us, buttons will name the store and carry a commission note.
Can MeshCore and Meshtastic radios talk to each other?
No. They are separate networks. Many boards can run either firmware, one at a time, so a whole group has to pick one.
How far will these radios reach?
It depends almost entirely on antenna height and what is in the way. We do not publish range numbers without a documented test. The line-of-sight calculator shows what the earth and the clear-zone rule allow for your heights.
Do I need a license?
Not for unlicensed operation within the FCC Part 15 limits for this band, which cap conducted output at 1 W and reduce it for antennas above 6 dBi. Operating under an amateur license is a different set of rules, and amateur rules prohibit messages encoded to obscure their meaning, which rules out encrypted channels.
Are my messages private?
Only on a channel with your own key. Default channel keys are published, so anyone can read them. On Meshtastic, direct messages use per-node public keys, with no forward secrecy. Read our privacy guide before relying on it.
Does it need the internet or a phone plan?
No. Radios relay to each other over the air. A phone is only needed for companion radios, as a screen and keyboard over Bluetooth.
Can it replace 911?
No. Mesh radio is low-data-rate text between radios on the same network. It does not reach emergency services unless someone on the mesh relays your message.
Why are there no prices?
We only show prices that come from an approved, current merchant feed, with the date. Prices typed in by hand go stale and can break merchant rules.
Have you tested these radios?
Not yet. Every product says "Manufacturer specs only" or "Unverified". When we test something, the page will say "Hands-on tested" and link the method.
Are you affiliated with MeshCore, Meshtastic or any radio maker?
No. We describe their products and software because they are relevant, and we are not sponsored or endorsed by any of them.
